Seems like the vast majority of people come to GW forums to complain. Those that like the game don't.

That's not even the whole problem. Maybe you should actually PvP before making a statement?

A question though: Are any of you sad that you will have to say goodbye to your characters in GW1? I know that HoM will make it easier but still. Wont you miss these characters that you have spent so much time creating?

Not at all, as i know they will always be there to go back and do things with...

And anyway, having GW2 just gives me more to do with my characters and more outings to do with my guild as we all go for more titles

yeah but if everyone leaves GW1, why would you go back to it? would you still have fun just playing all by yourself?

I am sure alot of people on this forum have fun playing with themselves. But at any cost it all depends on how good the game is, for me at least. If GW2 sucks then sure ill play GW1, but if it is really good Ill probably put it away. Its just like the way I am with MOH:AA, I used to play that game all the time for like 2 or 3 years straight and now I barelly play it but I do pick it up every now and then.

PvP in this game, while not officially dead, is seriously diminished in status. I was watching Virtual Dragons and No Observable Talent in the monthly championship series when suddenly someone said something in obschat, and I was actually surprised to see someone on. Then I thought about what obs was like when I started playing. It was filled with people talking non-stop in nearly every game on obs. There was a sense of excitment about what was going on. That, sadly, is long gone. It all has the feeling to me of the curtain having falling and the show having left town. There are still some people milling around in the seats talking about what was, but otherwise its over. I wish this wasn't the case, but its the sense I get, and its the sense that most people I talk to get. Maybe there can be a resurgence, but most likely that resurgence will be GW2.

Its easy to say things like "if you don't like it just leave", but its exactly because people liked the game that they don't. We don't want it to be this way, and we hang around in the hope that something can happen to make PvP work again like it did.

I think it will be dead by GW 2 like people have said pve is more or less just grind now, Gw:en will revive it for a while, but not for too long. And pvp will need some kind or fix if its to live i mean pve cant go on forever nor do i expect it too. Its pvp that needs a rethink to become what it once was. Whether the change needed is skill balance or somthing else i dunno though.

No, people who complain at people complaining show up too. The people who stopped playing doesn't show up however.

Lets hope GW2 will be so good that it destroys GW.

this is lame.

guild wars has only been out for about 2 years and already there is the plan for a whole new sequel.

I was expecting at least 6 years before having to hear about this.

and after this expansion there is no plans for another expansion/campaign (except for some secret project they are working on we don't know what it is yet, might be GW, might not be) I don't know how they expect us to keep playing an unchanged game for 2 years.

I mean nightfall came out then it's like "there will be GWEN that there is nothing planned after that"

I feel betrayed, when guild wars was being advertised they made claims of releasing expansions and whatnot EVERY 6 months. They have only fulfilled that claim one time with nightfall, factions took an entire year and GWEN will be about 10 months after NF.

If GW2 comes out I feel the end will be near for GW because i feel there will be no more expansions to buy.

Everquest still makes expansions for EQ1!!! i don't play it but if I wanted to pay the money for it I would play EQ1.

They better be making another GW expansion as that secret project. This makes me so ticked >.< and after GW2 they still better be doing this or at LEAST continue free add ons.

Will Guild Wars 2 Kill off Guild Wars? We can only hope so. If GW2 doesn't interest gamers more then the original then it has failed. It's hard to predict what the community will be like for the first game, but there are some things i'd like to point out.

Let's talk about the Hall of Monuments for a minute. Once GW2 is released will players still be able to go back to the original and acquire accomplishments that will benefit them? If so, for how long? If it's permanent and the rewards are good then I don't see the original game dying off much.

People will continue to play the original for nostalgic reasons. I'm sure at some point in my playing of GW2 i'll want to go back to the original just to do some things for fun, but it really all depends on how good Guild Wars 2 is. It's very hard to say.

If Guild Wars 2 is as good as I hope it will be then my main reasons for going back is to either clarify some storyline plots (least I forget) or to get more rewards in GW2 via the monument.

I know how you feel and I'm glad you mentioned EQ. EQ2 failed compared to the original mainly because people played it for so long they came to be too attached. There were so many expansions for EQ before they released the sequel, people felt they spent too much time and money on it just to have to start all over again. While I think Guild Wars could certainly keep going with expansions and even new chapters you have to realize how much more difficult it then is to move forward.

DOOM MONGERER! I CHOOSE YOU!!!

oh shut up... How can GW1 kill off GW2 when they are linked together for achievements and titles and the hall of monuments...

i'm sure GW2 players would go crazy nuts if all their inhereted items and things suddenly dissappered because your GW1 hall of monuments dissapeared...

Nah GW2 will breath new player life into GW1, when new players come over and realise they can get sweet skins and crap like that if they make a character of the same name in GW1 and get achievements and titles and put them in the hall of monuments

I'm not sure if you really meant to quote Fox or me. I'm the one who mentioned hall of monuments but neither of us said anything about GW1 killing of GW2. Neither one of us said anything about your achievements disappearing after obtaining them either. The argument I was making is after GW2 is released will we still be able to go back to the original and complete more accomplishments to get rewards in GW2 and if so for how long? It would be nice to think you can go back to GW1 at any time after GW2 is released to achieve new things but Anet may decide otherwise because that would be taking focus off of their newest product. Another reason would be veteran status. If any schmuck can pick up GW1 well after GW2 is out and get the bonuses from the monuments then to some people it losses it's quality. Consider it in the same sense of the divine aura or the CE dances. I personally would rather it be an unlimited time frame but I wish someone from Anet can clarify their plans on that.

People are still playing UO today. So by the time GW2 comes out, GW1 will be what? 4 years old. There will be people playing it, maybe more contents will be release, I don't know. Will GW1 die? I doubt it. Will I be playing GW1 in 2009? Probably not. Will I keep GW1 on my HD? You bet I will.

i just quoted onmass

But yes, it has been said in many interviews that the GW1 servers will not be shut down whilst people play them, mainly, I believe, because they will be in the same servers as GW2, but thats just my best educated guess

What stupid question ... of course GW2 won't kill GW1 ... I mean...

Did the Automobile kill the Horse 'n Buggy?
Did the Calculator kill the Abacus?
Did the Oven kill the 'Big Pot over the Fire'?
Did Penicillin kill the Leech?

Of COURSE GW1 will continue strong for many years once GW2 is released....
